The SA Plastics Pact m embers are proud to announce the publication of the 2024 Impact Report.
This latest report, the fifth since the inception of the Pact in 2020, showcases the progress that Pact members made against the targets during the 2024 calendar year. Data pertaining to the 2025 calendar year will be published later this year with the 6th Annual Report.
The 2024 report highlights notable progress including:
- Since 2020, members have invested more than R4 billion in upstream and midstream circular economy activities;
- More than 200 000 tonnes of plastics have been placed on the market by members;
- 35% of problematic items have been addressed;
- 72% of plastic items placed on the market by members are now recyclable;
- Recycled content in plastic packaging has increased to 19%.
Against the targets, the following key progress applies:
- Target 1: 35% towards the tarfet
- Target 2: 72% of plastic packaging is recyclable, reusable or compostable
- Target 3: 50% of plastic packaging is effectively recycled
- Target 4: An average of 19% recycled content including in new plastic packaging
