Recycling creates job opportunities and is a socially responsible activity that keeps plastic out of the environment whilst creating job opportuities across the plastic packaging value chain. This #ResponsiblePlasticJuly we’re celebrating all of those who contribute to a circular economy for plastic packaging in South Africa by choosing recyclable packaging and then taking the steps to ensure it is recycled!
In a healthy circular economy, well designed plastics play a critical role in improving our lives and creating jobs whilst remaining out of the environment

Recycling is socially responsible, keeping valuable materials in the economy and out of the environment. Recycling also supports many livelihoods with numerous jobs linked to it across the value chain including collection, transport, sorting, cleaning (re)manufacturing and (re)distribution.
So, what can you do?
By playing an active role in recycling, you are helping to support the livelihoods of others. Whether it is the livelihoods of those who collect recyclables, those who sort them at material recovery facilities, those that transport them to facilities, those that turn recycled content into new products or a range of other jobs linked to the value chain, by playing your part, you’re keeping many people in jobs, and creating new jobs for others!
